How to: Song Choice

This section will discuss song choices for two types of playlists. On this panel, we will discuss how to pick out the correct songs.

To choose the correct song, we first need to figure out what kind of music we want and how it fits with our playlists theme. If we want a playlist that reminds you of summer, try finding music genres like reagee, pop, and indie. Songs like "Could You Be Loved" by Bob Marley, "Remember When" by Wallows, and "Sun Punks" by Ashes to Amber all fit the "summer" vibe. These songs have similar "beachy" beats, lyrics, and overall vibes.

If we wanted to create a playlist about falling in love, we would need to find love songs. Finding upbeat songs with quality lyrics is the best way to complete the playlist. Some perfect song choices can include, "Electric Love" by BØRNS, "Somebody to You" by The Vamps, and "Classic" by MTKO. These songs all are fast-paced and upbeat. The lyrics are also similar as they describe the feelings of liking someone.

The other pages titled "Cover Choice" and "Title Choice" will explain the next aspects of creating a playlist.

Playlist 1: Summer Music

In the previous panel, we discussed songs that fit the summer vibe. This panel will further discuss what we would look for to create a summer playlist. Happy, upbeat, and summery lyrics are key to this type of playlist. But what if we wanted to go deeper into the "summer genre"? A great idea is to think of TV shows or movies that remind you of summer. I will choose the TV show Outer Banks for inspiration. Because Outer Banks already has a sound track for the show, you can take inspiration from those songs and even include a few on your own playlist! (Though try and make your own playlist unique!) Some of the songs I will include from the original Outer Banks soundtrack will include "Left Hand Free" By alt-J, "You've Got the Heat" by Luster, and "High School Lover" by Cayucas. These songs were featured in the TV show as well as the offical soundtrack. By taking inspiration from these songs, we can currate an entire playlist!

When listening to these certain songs, it's hard to miss the "swing" beat or "reagee" style. A similar song such as "Chasing Waves" by Vista Kicks features this "reagee" theme. You can also look for songs with summer titles. Look for music that feature "waves", "surf", and "sun". Usually, these songs include some of that "reagee" and "beachy" feel.

Playlist 2: Love Songs

Love songs are some of the most popular and listened to music today. It's quite easy to find songs that revolve around love. There are sweet and slow love songs and cute, upbeat songs. Today, we will be focusing on the upbeat more "cute" songs. In the first panel, we talked about specific songs that fit the critera we are looking for. Let's find some similar songs!

The kind of music we are trying to find are similar to "Electric Love" by BØRNS. This song features heavy electronics and lots of descriptive lyrics. Another song thats similar is "Electronic Lover" by Breathe Electric. This song describes love as an "electric" feeling, hence its name. Other songs like "American Love" by Smallpools and "Lover's Rock" also features heavy electronic beats while the lyrics are about love but in a more metaphoric or descriptive way.
