About Me

My name is Anna Graves. I am the creator of this website. This page will share some information about me and how I came to enjoy making playlists so mucch! It basically all started in high school, where I would create playlists with friends for fun! I started to really enjoy creating playlists, and eventually created a Spotify account soley for creating playlists. I began creating playlists based off of different senerios, but I eventually tried movies, specific genres of music and books, and even tv shows. My love for making playlists was so great that I decided to write my college entrace essay on creating playlists. In my essay I explained how I currate each playlist.

As of now, I have created over 50 playlists. Each of these playlists was created soley by me, and are all my own original ideas or based off of someone elses creation. These playlists range from classical music to musical theater songs. Some examples are:

  • POV 1: You're in the Apocalypse
  • Throwbacks: A playlists based on 2000's music
  • Outer Banks Type Beat: Music I think would be in the hit TV show: Outer Banks

There are plenty more playlists I have created. Each and everyone I am quite proud of! I hope to be able to share the enjoyment I get out of creating playlists with you !

On the other half of this page, I decided to share my college entrance essay. The essay describes how I started getting interested in muisc and eventually creating playlists. By reading this, I hope that you will be able to understand the basics of currating a perfect playlist. Of course, this website will dive deeper into how to create a playlist, but the essay should help you better understand.

I hope you enjoy and learn everything you'll need to create your very own playlist

My College Entrance Essay

From a young age, I took piano lessons, learned music theory, and played different classical pieces. I enjoyed playing the piano, from competitions to playing for my family; it was a big part of my life. I finally stopped playing piano in middle school when the workload became harder. In high school, I fell in love with the guitar. For my 15th birthday, my parents bought me a guitar with the phases of the moon running down the frets. They told me that I could start learning how to play with lessons. For two years, I learned to pick patterns and chords until I could play over 40 songs. I had an entire binder dedicated to music I could play on the guitar. Having a stuffed binder made me proud of how far I had gone in two years. In my junior year of high school, I had to stop taking guitar lessons due to the workload, but I still played for fun. I would use Spotify to look up my favorite artists and hit songs to play. That's when I discovered my newfound love for creating playlists. I spent hours creating the perfect playlists, listening to the lyrics, and measuring the beat of each song so they would fit perfectly into each playlist. I have a playlist for any occasion I could think of, with each song matching the topic, building off each other. I made them for tv shows to study playlists to mythology playlists. Some of my favorite playlists I have are my "Point of View" playlists. My favorite "POV" playlist is "You're in the Apocalypse." It consists of music that I think would fit in an apocalyptic movie or what I want to hear. Some of the songs are older, from the 1940s, while others are current. The beginning of the playlist starts with Frank Sinatra and The Ink Spots. Intertwined with those songs are more current music like Radiohead and Adele. It took time, but the playlist sounds smooth and flows together. The most difficult playlist I have created is the mythology playlist. The music includes references to Greek or Egyptian mythology. But the hard part was that there aren't many songs that talk about mythology. It took me a while to find songs that either mentioned mythology or had mystical vocals and instruments. One of the best songs I found is Persephone by Tamino, who sings about the Greek goddess Persephone and Hades. The classical, or studying playlists, took time as well. Each piece is separated into categories such as royalty, dark academia, and gothic. Most study playlists consist of classical music, but some have instrumentals and character theme songs from tv shows. Every playlist is different, either the genre of music changes or the place to listen to them. Using the internet, I was able to find the tempo, lyrics, and instruments used to create the song. Putting songs in a playlist that has the same speed or beat makes the playlist flow smoothly. Having a playlist that has been created almost perfectly makes listening to it more enjoyable. For slower playlists, the trend of "slowed and reverberated" music fits nicely. For more upbeat playlists, I try and find music with a faster tempo and more bass. I love sharing my playlists and music with my friends. I always tell my friends about the newest playlist I've put together. Sometimes I will collaborate with my friends, making a playlist together. Sharing my ideas with another person helps make the playlist better because I don't know every song. My friends and I can create a unique playlist that still fits together. Knowing others like to listen to the playlists I've created and enjoy them makes me happy. Whenever a friend mentions they've listened to one of my playlists, it makes my day. Music is my way of expressing myself, whether it be from creating playlists to strumming my guitar.
